PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Nippon Paint 8048 Zinc Phosphate Primer QD is a high-performance, two-pack epoxy polyamide coating specifically engineered for industrial and heavy-duty protective applications. Designed as a "surface tolerant" mastic, it is the ideal solution for protecting steel surfaces where abrasive blast cleaning is not feasible.
With its unique combination of anti-corrosion pigments and rust penetrants, this primer delivers exceptional corrosion resistance in diverse environments.

Type: Two-pack epoxy polyamide coating.

Mixing Ratio: 1 part by volume of Base to 1 part by volume of Hardener.

Drying Time (at 25-30°C): Touch Dry: 3–4 hours; Hard Dry: 16 hours.

Pot Life: 3 hours after mixing (at 25-30°C).

Typical Thickness: 100 – 250 microns per dry film (DFT) per coat.

Theoretical Coverage: 9.0 m²/litre (at 100 microns DFT) to 3.6 m²/litre (at 250 microns DFT).

Solid Content: 90 ± 2% by volume.
Application Instruction

Mixing: Thoroughly stir the Base component, then gradually add the Hardener component while continuing to stir until a completely homogeneous mix is achieved.

Method: Application can be done via brush, roller, compressed air spray, or airless spray.
Airless spray is preferred for achieving thicker coats in a single application. -
Thinning: If necessary, add up to 5% of Nippon SA-65 Thinner for brush, roller, or airless spray; for compressed air spray, use 10% – 15% thinner by volume.
Recommended Coating System

Primer: 1 coat of Nippon Paint 8048 Zinc Phosphate Primer QD.

Intermediate (Optional): 1 coat of Nippon Paint 8048 (for added thickness and protection).

Topcoat: 1 coat of Nippon PU Recoatable Finish (for superior gloss and color retention in heavy-duty areas).
Surface Preparation

Abrasive Blasting: For optimum performance, abrasive blasting to SSPC-SP10 or Sa 2½ (ISO 8501-1:2007) is recommended with a profile of 50–100 microns.

Manual Cleaning: Where blasting is impossible, mechanical cleaning to St 3 (ISO 8501-1:2007) using wire brushes or power tools is acceptable.

Contaminant Removal: The surface must be clean and dry.
Zinc salts should be removed by fresh water washing and scrubbing. -
Degreasing: For galvanized surfaces, thorough solvent degreasing in accordance with SSPC-SP1 is necessary.

General Cleaning: Ensure all dirt, grease, and loose rust are removed; dry brushing is typically sufficient for removing surface dirt after chemical or mechanical cleaning.
