PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Nippon Paint 1K Etching Primer is a high-performance, single-pack polyvinyl butyral (PVB) based primer specifically formulated for non-ferrous metal surfaces. It is engineered to "etch" into smooth, hard-to-bond substrates, creating a microscopic mechanical bond that ensures subsequent paint layers adhere perfectly.
This quick-drying primer is the essential first step for projects involving aluminum, galvanized iron, stainless steel, and light alloys. By providing an ultra-thin but powerful adhesive layer, it prevents the peeling and flaking often associated with painting smooth metal surfaces. It is ideal for both industrial manufacturing and architectural metalwork.

APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS
-
Mixing: Stir the contents thoroughly before use. This is a 1K (one-component) product, so no hardener is required.
-
Thinning: Use Nippon Vinilex 510 Thinner.
-
Conventional Spray: Thin by 50–100% by volume to achieve a very thin, translucent film.
-
-
Application Method: Conventional air spray is highly recommended to achieve the required thin film (approx. 10 microns). Avoid heavy application as thick coats can reduce adhesion.
-
Cleaning: Clean all spraying equipment immediately with Nippon Vinilex 510 Thinner after use.
RECOMMENDED COATING SYSTEM
For a complete protective system on non-ferrous metals, follow this sequence:
-
Pretreatment (1 Coat): Nippon Paint 1K Etching Primer (Applied thin).
-
Primer/Intermediate (1 Coat): Nippon Paint 8048 Zinc Phosphate Primer QD or Nippon EA4 Finish (as an undercoat).
-
Topcoat (2 Coats): Nippon Paint PU Recoatable Finish or Nippon Paint 9000 Gloss Finish.
SURFACE PREPARATION
-
Degreasing: The surface must be completely free from oil, grease, and wax. Wipe the surface with a suitable solvent (like Nippon SA-65 Thinner) using the "two-cloth" method (one to apply, one to wipe off).
-
Oxidation Removal: For aluminum or stainless steel, ensure any white rust or oxidation is removed using fine sandpaper or a synthetic abrasive pad.
-
Dryness: Ensure the substrate is completely dry before application.
-
Environmental Conditions: Do not apply when relative humidity exceeds 85% or if the surface temperature is less than 3°C above the dew point.
