Nippon Paint Penetrative Epoxy Primer

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Nippon Paint Penetrative Epoxy Primer is a high-performance, two-pack solvent-based epoxy primer specifically modified for deep penetration into concrete substrates. Formulated with a specialized adhesion promoter, it significantly enhances the bond between the concrete surface and subsequent epoxy or polyurethane topcoats. It is an ideal solution for sealing porous concrete and re-strengthening weak or chalky substrates, providing a stable foundation for polymer overlays. Its low viscosity ensures it reaches deep into the capillaries of the concrete, making it a critical component for long-lasting industrial, commercial, and residential flooring systems.

Technical Data

  • Paint Type: Solvent-based (Two-pack Epoxy)

  • Shelf Life: Up to 24 months in a tightly sealed container

Application Instructions

  • Application Method: Apply using a high-quality Brush or Roller.

  • Mixing: This is a two-component product consisting of a Base and a Hardener. Mix the two parts thoroughly according to the specified ratio using a mechanical stirrer to ensure a uniform consistency.

  • Pot Life: Once mixed, the product must be used within its specified pot life (refer to technical datasheet for temperature-specific pot life).

  • Cleaning: Clean all tools and equipment with an appropriate solvent-based thinner (e.g., Nippon SA-65 Thinner) immediately after use.

  • Note: Ensure the application environment is well-ventilated. Do not apply if the substrate is damp or if rain is expected shortly after application.

Recommended Coating System

  • Primer (1 Coat): Nippon Paint Penetrative Epoxy Primer.

  • Intermediate (Optional): Hi-Ponyl AD High Build or compatible epoxy intermediate.

  • Finishing (2 Coats): PU Recoatable Finish or compatible solvent-based epoxy topcoat.

  • Note: Always ensure the topcoat is compatible with solvent-based epoxy systems for maximum durability.

Surface Preparation

  • General Cleaning: Surfaces must be structurally sound, dry, clean, and free from oil, grease, dirt, and loose contaminants.

  • New Concrete: Must be cured for at least 28 days before application. Moisture content should be below 6% (measured by Kett HI-520) and pH level between 7 and 9.

  • Mechanical Preparation: For optimal penetration and adhesion, concrete laitance should be removed via light grinding, captive shot blasting, or diamond grinding to achieve an open-textured surface.

  • Weak Concrete: For dusty or weak concrete surfaces, ensure all loose material is removed. The penetrative nature of this primer will help bind the remaining sound substrate.

  • Dryness: The substrate must be completely dry. Trapped moisture can interfere with the penetration process and lead to adhesion failure.
